Preoperative Ostomy Consultation

Individualized education and counseling to help patients and caregivers understand what to expect before surgery, during the hospital stay, and after returning home.

Preoperative Stoma-Site Marking

Preoperative assessment and stoma-site selection based on abdominal contours, skin folds, scars, beltline, clothing, mobility, body position, lifestyle, and other individual considerations.

The goal is to identify an appropriate surgical site that can support successful pouching and long-term self-care whenever surgically feasible.

New Ostomy & Post-Discharge Care

Going home is only the beginning.

The first days and weeks after ostomy surgery can be one of the most vulnerable periods in the ostomy journey.

Ostoluxe provides early specialty follow-up from a Nurse Practitioner, to help patients transition safely from hospital to home, identify developing problems, reinforce education, and address concerns before they become more serious.

Pouching, Leakage & Appliance Fitting

The right pouching system should fit the person—not the other way around.

Frequent leakage, poor wear time, discomfort, and difficulty maintaining a seal should not simply become accepted parts of living with an ostomy.

Ostoluxe provides individualized assessment of the stoma, abdominal contours, peristomal skin, current pouching system, lifestyle, and changing needs to help identify a better solution.

Peristomal Skin & Stoma Concerns

Healthy skin is an important part of successful ostomy management.

Ostoluxe evaluates new, persistent, or recurrent concerns involving the stoma and surrounding skin and develops an individualized treatment and pouching plan.

This may include evaluation and management of:

Irritant peristomal dermatitis
Moisture-associated skin damage
Fungal-appearing skin concerns

High-Output Ileostomy Management

High output is more than an inconvenience. It can become a medical problem quickly.

Excessive ileostomy output can lead to dehydration, electrolyte abnormalities, kidney injury, weakness, repeated emergency visits, and hospital readmission.

Ostoluxe provides advanced-practice evaluation and management focused on identifying the cause, reducing risk, and developing an individualized treatment plan.

Care may include:

Assessment of ostomy output volume and pattern
Evaluation for dehydration and readmission risk
Medication review and management
Oral hydration and electrolyte strategies

IV Hydration When Clinically Indicated

For appropriate patients, IV hydration may be incorporated into the treatment plan when clinically indicated following medical assessment.

IV hydration is offered as part of clinical management and may be considered for appropriate patients experiencing fluid losses or dehydration related to their ostomy or gastrointestinal condition.

Patients with severe dehydration, significant electrolyte abnormalities, acute kidney injury, hemodynamic instability, or other findings requiring a higher level of care will be directed to the appropriate emergency or hospital setting.

Hydration, Nutrition & Intestinal Rehabilitation

Altered gastrointestinal anatomy can change the way the body absorbs fluids, electrolytes, nutrients, and medications.

Ostoluxe provides individualized assessment and management for patients experiencing challenges related to intestinal function and adaptation.

Care may include:

Hydration and electrolyte management
Oral rehydration strategies
Nutrition assessment and education
Management of high or changing ostomy output
Medication assessment related to intestinal transit and absorption
Monitoring for dehydration and nutritional risk
Intestinal adaptation and rehabilitation support
Coordination with gastroenterology, IBD specialists, surgery, dietitians, infusion services, and other members of the care team when needed

At Ostoluxe, specialty ostomy care is provided by an advanced-practice provider with prescriptive authority. This means your care can move seamlessly from assessment to treatment without unnecessary steps in between.

Ostoluxe can assist with ongoing ostomy supply management, including:

Assessment of current ostomy products and quantities
Recommendations for pouching systems and accessories based on clinical need
Ostomy supply prescriptions and orders
Updating prescriptions as pouching needs change

Some ostomy concerns require timely evaluation but may not necessarily require an emergency department visit.

Ostoluxe is designed to provide rapid access to specialty assessment for appropriate ostomy-related concerns, helping identify problems earlier and determine the right level of care.

Depending on the concern, evaluation may be provided virtually or in person.

Ostoluxe is not a replacement for emergency medical care. Patients experiencing severe symptoms or a medical emergency should seek immediate emergency evaluation.
